Media Product

USE -CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCT
My media prdouct uses elements of real media products as it in a typical 'thriller' teaser trailer I have noticed that they use short quick images from the actual film to give the audience an insight of what the film is about and to capture to mood of the genre. I have applied this technique to the teaser trailer to show the realistic production of a trailer, similar to the film 'Taken' and 'Captivity'. From the structure of these trailers that I have analysed I can add the same techniques so it sets the scene for the audience.
Choosing to have the fast paced teaser trailer structured our trailer as it kept the genre recognizable and to keep the audience from getting bored as we wanted to keep the excitement and anticipation of the film. This proved to be a successful chose as from the positive feedback.

DEVELOP - CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCT
We stuck to the typical conventions of a thriller/horror, but developed and applied conventions to make the teaser trailer a realistic thriller trailer. We did this through the lighting, location and costume.
Lighting;
Dark lighting within the location to create the mood of mystery (mystery linking in with the poster)
^ convention of a real media product - horror.
Location;
Having the location keeping the element of mystery and linking in with lighting of darkness and the newspaper covered walls, this being a stereotypical type of mysterious horror.
Costume;
The costume of the one character shown is plain, and the face is hidden to show a mysterious person. Another real media convention applied to the teaser trailer.
Linking in with the costume we used a male figure to be our protagonist as media conventions tell us that it is the norm to see a male figure being the 'bad guy'.

Not subverting from the genre we wanted to create, keeping the obvious thriller/horror convention was what we indeed to include in our teaser trailer. I think that we had created a successful teaser trailer and included real media conventions. I'm pleased with the turn out of the teaser trailer that we created and the conventions we had used to make it a realistic production.

Combination of main product & ancillary text

The combination of the main product and the ancillary task is effective in the way that both texts are links from the teaser trailer advertising what is included within the trailer.
The added tag line in the poster is a insight hint into what type of genre the wanted the teaser trailer to be and the poster and the magazine.
The color of the poster keeps in with the atmosphere needed to create the mood for the trailer.
The magazine and poster are a good way of promoting the film. The marketing side would mainly aim at our target audience as the magazine is for people who are interested in new upcoming films. The poster is also a good way of marketing the film as it would be seen everywhere.
Both ancillary texts look professional which make it look like a real poster and magazine advertising the film.
From research I have seen that many films have produced the same media texts to advertise their film so I think that this is a sucessful creation of a real media product.

Media Technologies & Ancillary

The picture for the poster, I used a Fuji Film camera to add to the professional look for a advertising poster. I edited the poster using Photo shop CS3 on the apple mac.
I adapted it by changing the color to a dark mysterious lighting to add to the atmosphere of mystery.
I wanted to keep the the genre of thriller, this is shown in the poster.
I added a tag line which reads ' What goes on behind closed doors..'
I used this because on other horror film posters I  have anaylised they have tag lines to fit the type of genre there film is or has something to do with the image.
I wanted to have a picture of the white door because it goes against the typical conventions of a horror film as 'white' is seen as innocent and pure, however i have used it in mine as play on with the film as behind the white door bad things happen.

This website helped me with the create the professional looking poster above. I found that on a poster to show the high quality standard there are star ratings which i have included and the names of the institutions that are supporting the film. There are also star casting names but as we had no-one famous staring in our teaser trailer we haven't included that.

I used Apple Mac computers to edit my film teaser trailer on and to create my poster.
The software that we used to edit the trailer with was Final cut express. I found this difficult to use on the apple mac computer because I had never used it before and I had to find out how to use it and add effects on to the images. Even though it was hard to use the end product was successful in how we imaged it to look.
Working with the software Photo shop I found this difficult as we had never had a lesson in how to use it, so for this again we had to play about and see how it turned out. With help the end product looks professional.
Adding music to the teaser trailer was easy as we searched for a copy right free music.

CONSTRUCTION, RESEARCH AND PLANNING

 The research and planning was organised so that we could keep on top of the filming needed to be done, the storyboarding was well planned so we knew what image we had to capture to create the teaser trailer, the organisation sheet I had created was equally as important as we had to stick to the times and dates of when we needed the images. The planning of the location had previously change so over coming this was a challenge as we needed to know what set location we had to work with. We had taken some images from the storyboard that we thought we could use for the begining rather than the intended opening, this helped us with the location dilemma as we already had a safe enviroment to work in as that had already been confirmed.

Evaluation of media product

The media product that we have created was a typical teaser trailer. We created this by using fast snap shots of the actual film that we wanted to show the audience that wouldn't give away the whole storyline, due to using this convention it would draw the aduience in and result in them questioning what they have seen and make them want to go and watch the film. Having fast snap shot it would set the scene and mood which is something we intended to do.

Helping us create our own teaser trailer we anyalised teaser trailers with the same genre so that we could see how a thriller/horror trailer was made and how is holds the audience. We thought that having a teaser trailer would be better because we didn't want our viewers to getting bored and from watching a normal horror trailer I as a viewer i was getting bored of watching. We wanted to keep an thrill of excitment while watching the teaser trailer, we acheive this as in our feedback as it was positive in the way they were excited by it and wanted to see more.

In our teaser trailer we wanted to create the mood and the atmosphere so we used dark lighting as it one of the main conventions of a horror film. This imediatly making the audience become aware of the film type genre. Adding the conventions of typical horror genre it adds to the mysterious side of our teaser trailer that we wanted to create. This is also shown in the poster.

Resulting from this I think that we have made a successful teaser trailer as we used conventions of real media products, this is something that we had planned from the begining and what we have created turned out successfully.

Completed Teaser Trailer 'Snatch'

Audience feedback

1)What do you like about the film trailer?
2)From watching, did you know what type of genre the trailer is?
3)What would you add to improve the trailer?
4)Do you think too much or not enough of the storyline was shown?
5)From watching the teaser trailer would you want to go and watch the film?

1) I like the fast paced images and I liked how the music suited it's genre
2) A horror type thriller
3) I wouldn't have the candles in the trailer because i didn't understand why they were there.
4) I thought it was fine with the amount shown
5) I would go and what and watch it, it looks entertaining.

The music is fast paced so it adds an element of excitement to the trailer. But it contrasts with the images of blood which usually has grim connotations, so it makes me want to know how these are linked in the film.

Not entirely sure, but it seems like an action or horror.

I think the ending is a bit abrupt so I would find a way to make it more subtle.

I think as it is a teaser trailer it was about the right amount as it didn’t give too much away.

Yes because I would be interested to find out what it is actually about.

This audience feedback has helped us figure out what we would could do to improve next time around. It is good to know that people can clearly see the conventions we have used to make sure the audience can tell that this is a thriller.

Institution

Looking at similar film and their institutes I have found that;

Film genre simialar to teaser trailer 'Snatch'

20th Century Fox are distribute the film 'Taken'.
20th century fox is an American distributor that is one of a major American film studios,
Produced by Luc Bennson- EuropaCorp company.
20th Century Fox is a conglomerate comapny which distribute the film 'Taken', EuropaCorp is a subsidiary comapny that produce the film.Thinking about the distribution and producer for the teaser trailer I would want it to be British as ??????

 Warp is one of the most respected, creative indepedant companied. Now is induced in other media forms such as, Warp records, Warp films, Warp music video and commercials.

Warp films only produces origanl British FilmMaking.

Black Swan has a british distribution company supporting the film.
Fox Searchlight Pictures is a film division of Fox Filmed Entertainment which means that it's comes from a parent comany. However it specializes in independent an British films, which include horror.
Cross Creek Pictures is an independent film production and finance company.
I think that having these two institues support our film teaser trailer is suitable for what they work with and they both work well together in promting the film.

Thinking about the age rating on the teaser trailer I think that it would be suitable for our thriller/horror to be a 15 rating. Looking at the BBFC rating guides I think that it is a suitable age for this type of trailer.
