Half Term

Over half term Katie and I plan to record a few shots from our storyboard. We would hope to record the opening of our teaser trailer but due to people we require to be in our trailer are involved with other things they need to do so we have been put on hold.
Things we need to organise;

Things that we don't need any of the above we can do, this will hopefully be sorted by the end of the half term.

Final Decisions

Costume

I thought that the suitable costume for the Protagonist would be casual clothing, to portray that she is just an ordinary girl and there’s nothing special about her.
The costume for the Adversary would be more of the conventional ‘Bad guy’ look, in all black with black gloves as that is all you see of his body.

Props

As our first clips will be shot in a pub, the props needed will already be there for example;
pub table
chairs
bar – drinks
toilets

We would need a car

And in the end shots we would have a room. I think that the room should be  empty , so no props needed

Treatment

Treatment

Our core theme is to 'Trust no one,' as the protagonist in our teaser trailer becomes the victim of an attack. Our idea has come from films such as, Saw 1 and Hostel 1 & 2. The binary opposition within our teaser trailer is good/bad or good/evil.

Our storyline is based around a girl called Stacey. While at the pub Stacey's drink is spiked without her knowing. The audience will see the drink and the hand spiking it but will not see the antagonist's face. Stacey sips her drink and goes to the toilet, however, does not return which sparks concern for her friends. The audience will then see Stacey wake up in a strange dark place, as she has been kidnapped whilst being 'out of it.'

We have split our storyline into separate acts:
Act 1 - Stacey is at the pub with friends, socialising and drinking alcohol.
Act 2 - Stacey leaves her drink for a few minutes and the antagonist spikes her drink.
Act 3 - Stacey is shown sipping her drink and acting extremely drunk which leads to her going to the toilet.
Act 4 - Stacey wakes up in a strange dark place banging on the wall to get out.

Core characters in our teaser trailer are:

The Protagonist - Stacey, 'ordinary girl,' aged 18, newly 18 and spends a lot of time at the pub with her friends.

The Antagonist - Never seen, apart from a view of his feet and his hands. 

Setting / Locations:

There is going to be a variety of locations in our trailer due to the fact the events need to take place in different locations for a more realistic feel. We are going to film at a local pub and use the car park too. Also a car speeding down a road at night and a dark room with barely any light apart from the light coming under the door which will only be enough light to see Stacey suffering in there.

 

Re-Thinking

When talking about our treatment and all the coventions of it we both found it hard to come up with an out line of our film.

So as we thought about how parctical our first idea was we began to think we jumped in the deep end. Not fully knowing anything about paranoraml activites and as we havent watch many films on that topic we thought it best if we change the direction we was heading.

Our new idea is to have a tense thriller.
From personal viewing of films of the sort I myslef would find this easier to create as i have watched many films with the same sort of story line.

I find these films very intriguing as I like the way the film is set out and how the audience are ever more induldged into working out questions they thinking they have thought by themselves but the film makers have dilibratly, subcontiously make the audience ask those questions.

I will now need to watch these three film teaser trailers to see how they have put clips together to entise the audience and draw them in enough so that they would want to go to watch the film.
I will also have to anaylise a poster advertising the film & a web page.

Research done so far

We have created our first draft of our film idea, we may later be adding and developing the idea to make it more sutable for what type of genre we are trying to create. The genre type we have gone for is a cross over of horror/mystery.
We have done research in to similar media texts. Doing this has helped me see what kind of teaser trailer we would have to produce and the high quality website we would have to create. We analysed Sixth Sense

The research into a documentry and teaser trailers is so that I full understand what work I will successfully be producing.

BBC Documentary - Reborn baby dolls

Mis-en-scene

The setting highlights the knife suggesting its a murder weapon.
With the camera angle being at a waist level you immediately feel an intermate connection with the charcters in the image.
With this coinciding with the expression on her face you can see that it is a see is showing sheer panic and fear of death.
The enviroment that she seems to be surrounded by is very  enclosed and it seems that there is no escape from where she is hiding.

Paranormal Activity 2 Teaser Trailer

Watching this teaser trailer you can see that it last for 1 minute 13 seconds. This is not the normal lasting time of a teaser trailer, this is only because it is reviewing the last film of paranormal activity showing the audience what they have already viewed and it shows there reactions to it in the cinema letting the audience remember how much they were taken back by it. Which then moves on to the actual teaser trailer for the second film of paranormal activity, this last for just over 60 seconds.

The trailer sets up the audience as it is is viewed by clips of footage from around the house giving the intermate feeling of the audience watching from first hand, as if they were there viewing in someone's house. This immediately has the audience connected with the film.
The intensity of the silence through the first seconds is unbearable to viewers as there is no typical conventions of scary music, upbeat and tense so as the viewers are becoming evermore focused in on the footage any unexpected sound would come as a shock.
For example - the sound of the dog barking was a shock to the system as it was unexpected. But as a human being any one watching automatically knows when a dog randomly starts barking it is directed at something and is to warn others that something's not right. With this thought in your head you are then expecting to see something unnatural appear.
The unwary colour of mid-night blue gives the illusion of a sleepy sense that no-one is awake so nothing should be going on, which links back to the audience making them question what goes on in there house at the same time of night as they are not awake to see for themselves.

Watching this teaser trailer for a paranormal film I would expect to see more paranormal activity going on, such as things crashing, banging and footsteps. The typical convention of paranormal activity in the home. However I do think that the second advertising teaser trailer is set out like this as it isn't giving much away  so that it draws the audience in and leaves then wanting more.
This teaser trailer is created to meet the viewers expectations of excitement, fear and an adrenaline rush which satisfy their viewing  fixation.

What I Need To Do Next.

I am working on developing research that will help the process and production of my horror genre teaser trailer. I have currently 3 things on my to do list;
- Create Mood Board
-Research and Analyse teaser trailer conventions
- Analyse web pages that are relevant and have the conventions of a horror genre.

The last exorcism image
The camera shot would be a medium long shot showing  the subejct in their enviroment. The thing that makes this image seem scary and unnatural is the way the subject is all darken set with dim lighting which is a convention of a horror film. The angle of the camera is set to eye level which suggests that the audience are actually observing the scene.

New Project A2

For the new project in A2 media I am working with Katie Sheridan.

We have choosen a brief to create a promotional package for a new film, to include a teaser trailer, together with two of the following three options:

• a website hompage for the film
• a film magazine front cover, featuring the film
• a poster for the film

By the end of this project i hope to achive a high quality teaser trailer aswell as a webpage and a poster advertising the film.

We have thought about what genre we are looking and we thought it would be best if we worked on a horror as we could possibly make  a successfull teaser trailer and a homepage with a poster advertising the film.
